AAG: Siasia wary of ‘group of death’

Coach of the U-23 team, Samson Siasia
National U-23 team coach, Samson Siasia, has admitted Nigeria are in the group of death after they were drawn alongside champions Ghana, Egypt and Senegal in Group B of the men’s football event at the 2015 All Africa Games holding in Brazzaville, Congo in September.
Group A has hosts Congo, Sudan, Zimbabwe and Burkina Faso.
Nigeria have only won the tournament once when they hosted the Games in 1973, while Egypt have been champions twice – in 1987 and 1995. Nigeria overcame Gabon and Zambia to book a place at this edition, while Egypt easily dumped Kenya and Burundi out of the race.
Ghana won it for the first time at the 2011 final in Mozambique when they beat South Africa via penalties. The Black Meteors defeated Mozambique to qualify for Brazzaville.
Senegal, who finished fourth at the 2011 edition after losing to Cameroon in the third-place match, qualified for the current edition by beating Mali on away goals.
“This is a group of death. It is a difficult group. Every team in this group has the potential to win the All Africa Games,” Siasia said.
“Every game in this group will be difficult. But we will approach each one like a final. I can assure you that anyone who makes it out of this group is top favourite to win the gold.”
The Congo team, managed by Frenchman Claude le Roy, are favourites in Group A. They qualified automatically as hosts, but they are also former champions being the first to win the tournament when they hosted 50 years ago.
Les Diables Nors are currently preparing to take on Nigeria in an African Championship qualifier in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Sunday.
Sudan, who are making a first appearance in the history of the eight-team tournament, eliminated Ethiopia and South Africa to qualify, while Zimbabwe edged Cameroon and Burkina Faso surprised Ivory Coast.
The Super Falcons have a relatively easier group in the women’s category as they appear as favourites in Group A, which consists of hosts Congo, Tanzania and Ivory Coast.
Nigeria are two-time champions at this level after winning the maiden edition at Abuja 2003 and in 2007 in Algeria.
Egypt, who are making their debut in the women’s event, will contend with tough oppositions as they face champions Cameroon, South Africa and Ghana in Group B.
The Lionesses of Cameroon and Ghana’s Black Queens were finalists at the last edition, while South Africa were two-time silver medallists.
Cameroon, Ghana and South Africa, are familiar foes after being drawn in the same group during the 9th African Women’s Championship in Namibia in 2014.

Oliseh lacks experience – Laloko

Sunday Oliseh
A former technical director of the Nigeria Football Association, Kashimawo Laloko, believes former international Sunday Oliseh lacks the experience necessary to manage the Super Eagles as the team continue their campaign for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder is in line to replace Stephen Keshi, whose two-year contract as Super Eagles coach was terminated last weekend.
Oliseh’s only managerial experience was at Belgian third division side Verviétois in 2008. Before then, he was sports director at Eupen, also a third division outfit in Belgium.
“I don’t think he has the necessary experience to be Super Eagles coach. He is educated and very organised as a player, but his success will depend on how organised he is as a coach,” Laloko said on the telephone on Thursday.
“Managing a national team is very different from coaching a club. Besides, being a good footballer and analyst does not automatically make you a fantastic coach. But one thing I can be sure of is that he will introduce a new structure in the team; Keshi never had any structure, and that was what affected the team last year.
“Oliseh might have the UEFA pro licence but it is required that he has a CAF licence, that is what we have on ground as the rule.”
Laloko, who was a former Gambia coach and a CAF instructor, said he was not comfortable with the idea of having a Dutch coach as Oliseh’s assistant, insisting that more experienced local coaches are available for the position.
He said, “What is the experience of the Dutch coach and who is bringing him? The NFF should be the one to appoint his assistants, not the other way round. Many of these foreign coaches know nothing about African football.
“Besides, this is not the time to spend our little resources on foreign coaches. We can call on coaches like Bitrus Bewarang, who also have UEFA licences and necessary experience.”

Buhari Refuses FG Offer On N400m Armoured Cars

President Muhammadu Buhari has refused an offer by the Federal Government to attain five new armoured Mercedes Benz S-600 (V222) cars for his use.

President Muhammadu Buhari
The cars which total cost is put at about N400m were calculated to be purchased by the State House.
According to a source close to the presidency, Buhari got to know of the plan when the Permanent Secretary, State House, Mr. Nebolisa Emodi, was briefing him of his ministry’s activities on Wednesday.

Displeased by the development, the President was said to have told Emodi that the purchase was unnecessary.
Describing it as a waste, the source said Buhari told the permanent secretary that the cars he inherited from former President Goodluck Jonathan were good for him.
“I don’t need any new cars. The ones I am using now are just fine,” the source quoted the President as saying.
The top government officials, however, said Buhari welcomed other initiatives presented by the permanent secretary to reduce the operating costs of the State House and strengthen its Finance and Accounts Internal Control Mechanisms.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, confirmed the development that Buhari had suspended approval for the purchase of the new cars.
Shehu said the President would continue to use the cars left behind by Jonathan in keeping with his commitment to prudent management of national resources.
Meanwhile, the National Security Adviser,Colonel Sambo Dasuki has said that President Buhari never ordered a demolition of checkpoints from the highways.

Heaps knows Revs need to adjust

Revs coach Jay Heaps know he needs to make some adjustments to help snap the team out of its struggles.
Revs coach Jay Heaps know he needs to make some adjustments to help snap the team out of its struggles.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Typically, the midway point of the season is when Revolution coach Jay Heaps and his staff take stock of what's working, and what needs improvement. But this year, the first-half examination had to wait.
With his primary focus on the task at hand during a trying, three-week stretch of midweek matches and road clashes, it wasn't until earlier this week that Heaps finally got the chance to sit down, fire up the film archives, and begin plotting the course for the second half of the season. And not a moment too soon either.
As the Revolution attempt to dig their way out a poor patch of form that has seen them go winless in 10 of their past 11 league matches, Heaps knows there's no time to waste -- especially after last weekend's 3-0 defeat to FC Dallas, which the Revolution coach deemed "the worst of it."
"There's a long look in the mirror at this point," Heaps said. "We have to reset a couple of things that we're doing because when you look collectively at the losses, they're all different forms of losing. In Dallas, there weren't many [positive] moments in that game, and I think that was the most disheartening one, and one that we need to correct, and correct quickly."
The focus on making corrections probably will start with team defense, an area where the Revolution have struggled to find consistency all season. Through its first 20 games, the club has conceded 29 goals, the second-highest number behind the 32 goals allowed by Philadelphia.
One player who understands the importance of improving the team's collective defending is center back Andrew Farrell, who has seen too many early leads go to waste during the club's current slump.
"We can't give up that many goals if we want to get where we want to be at the end of the year," Farrell said. "So first and foremost, we have to step up and clean up our defense because the goals will come and the results will come. But we just have to defend a little better."
But keeping the ball out of their own net is not the only area in which the Revolution will need to be better during the second half of the season. Despite collecting 25 goals -- second best in the Eastern Conference -- the offense has looked unsure of itself as of late.
That uncertainty was especially evident during the team's 3-0 loss in Dallas, a game in which the Revolution rarely threatened despite falling into an early deficit. Even so, Farrell says he believes the recent struggles aren't because of a shortage of attacking swagger.
"I just think that when a couple things don't go our way, it all just piles up, and we don't get the results we want," Farrell said. "When things start going well again, I think a lot things will start [falling into place], and the confidence that may be lacking for some people will come up."
It has been fairly easy to diagnose the problems the Revolution have encountered this year, especially over the course of their past 11 games. And after examining how the first 20 games unfolded, Heaps has already started to tweak things behind the scenes.
Heaps said that training habits have been tweaked, as well as some of the day-to-day tasks that take place behind the scenes. Given the club's recent struggles, it wouldn't be outside the realm to believe those changes could extend themselves onto the pitch starting with Saturday's conference clash with the New York Red Bulls.
"There's going to be some adjustments," Heaps said. "This is really good for us to get a couple of days, to reset and recalculate, and for me, now the final push for the season is on, and is happening right now."

Chelsea striker Loic Remy edges closer to Stamford Bridge exit

LOIC REMY'S loan move to Besiktas has move a step closer, according to reports.

Loic Remy is close to joining Besiktas

Loic Remy is close to joining Besiktas
According to The Times, Besiktas officials have arrived in London to try and seal the move.
It had been reported that Jose Mourinho previously blocked Remy's exit saying he was not for sale.
The striker's future at Stamford Bridge has came under threat after the arrival of Radamel Falcao from Monaco.
Falcao's season-long loan move to Chelsea appears to have paved the way for Remy's exit.

Fani-Kayode jealous of Tinubu, says APC chief

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Lateef Raji, says the Director of Media and Publicity, Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, is envious of the many achievements of the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Raji, who is a former Special Adviser to former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, said this during an interview with our correspondent on Thursday.
He said this while reacting to Fani-Kayode’s claim that the APC crisis showed that the North had put an end to Tinubu’s political dominance.
Fani-Kayode had also maintained that the North would dominate Nigeria for the next four years while other geopolitical zones, including the South-West, would be inconsequential under the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
Raji described such a statement as misleading given the fact that Tinubu had helped produce a Yoruba man, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, as the Vice-President.
He said, “He and many others just envy Tinubu because that statement is flat. No one can take Yoruba for granted. How can we be marginalised when we hold the number two position in the country? Yoruba cannot be marginalised in anyway.
“People envy Tinubu and always wish for his downfall. However, if you remember very well, these were the same people that predicted that the APC would not merge successfully. After we did, they predicted that we would not succeed at the polls but we proved them wrong. So, we will keep ignoring them.”
Buhari had received harsh criticisms recently for appointing only one southerner among his nine appointments.
However, Raji said the nine appointments were not key ones and there was no need to worry.
He said, “So far, the most important appointments have not been made. Appointments that do not need the approval of the Senate are usually not major ones. However, when it is time to make appointments, I am sure that Buhari will take the federal character into consideration.
“If he doesn’t, his attention will be drawn to it.”

Harnessing the gains of social networking

Segun Akiode
Social networking sites bring people together to talk, share ideas and interests, or make new friends. Social networking gives room for communication and collaboration among hundreds, thousand or even millions of different people located in different parts of the world.
The manner people interact on social networking sites can determine whether social networks are “social capital” or a “social liability” to users in the long run.
“Social capital” refers to the collective value of all social networks (who people know either online or offline) and the benefits that arise from such a web of people.
Based on the foregoing, it is imperative to note that it takes a network to access certain information and opportunities about your field of interest. And building a competitive advantage is sometimes a function of your social networks.
World-class professionals have formed the habit of building networks to help them navigate professional world with ease. No matter how brilliant your strategy is, if you are playing a solo game, you will always lose to those who play as a team. This is the reason athletes need coaches and trainers; children need parents and teachers and politicians need donors and strategists.
As an individual that hopes to succeed professionally, you must always be investing in professional network, to access certain privileges and information. There are people you cannot access physically due to geographical barriers, but online social networks break such limitations.
Relationships matter to your career, regardless of the stage of professional development you are now. Securing a job opportunity every now and then is a function of interaction with ‘information gate-keepers’ (recruiters or hiring managers). Getting a promotion, sometime, depends on whether you have a good rapport with your boss or not. This is not politics; it is just the way humans are wired (people tend to favour those they know).
Relationships matter because the people you spend time with, ultimately, shapes you.
Behavour and belief are contagious – you easily catch the emotional state of your friends, imitate their actions and adopt their values. The fastest way to change yourself is to associate with people who are already the way you want to be. This is being social capital smart!
‘Social relationships’ can mean many things. There are people you know solely in a personal context (close friends and family) and there are those you know on a professional basis – colleagues, industry contacts and customers. Your interaction with your social networks is along these two lines.
In order to fully harness the value of your social networks, the points below are useful:
Build quality social networks and not quantity: Often, many social media users make a mistake of equating a person’s online influence with the number of Twitterfollowers or number of LinkedIn connections. This is false thinking. Number is only a quantity measure not a quality measure. There must be emphasis on the quality of your social network.
Who are you connected to online and what is the quality of your social relationship? Can a timely career opportunity or business link be sent to you without asking for it?
Build value-driven social networks: Building a genuine social relationship with fellow professionals online involves seeing things from the perspective of others and thinking about how you can add value to them first before asking for a value-favour in return. That is, aim to give more value than you ask for on your online social networks. Give value and value will flow back in your direction.
Build top-of-mind social networks: There are better ways to stay in touch with your social networks and not be a pest to them. Social media provides a great platform for staying in touch passively with your social networks. Post useful and thought-leadership-articles often on yourLinkedIn profile; tweet and re-tweet valuable information on Twitter and drop birthday messages on Facebook. These are a few ways to stay in touch.
In closing, if you keep at these, before long quality people will flock in your direction and you will reap great value from social media, thereby increasing your social capital in the long term. Remember, when staying in touch on social media, do not fall into the temptation to ask for a favour too early. This is the golden rule of harnessing value from your social networks.

N’Assembly crisis: Tambuwal peace moves crumble

The peace committee chaired by Sokoto State Governor, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, appear to have failed to resolve the leadership tussle in the caucus of the All Progressives Congress at the House of Representatives.
The indication of this came on Wednesday as the leadership of the House dismissed as “nothing like party position” an earlier letter the APC wrote to the Speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, on the zoning of principal offices.
After the Tambuwal committee met with the group led by Dogara, and that of a former Minority Leader, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, the issue – the sharing of four principal offices – is yet to be unresolved.
Comments
Sunday Njokede: When Buhari starts a full war against corruption, some of these politicians will be sent to jail.
Benny: It is high time we stooped this delusion that Buhari will send people to jail. Is he going to take over from the judiciary? In the United States and the United Kingdom, you do not hear that President Barack Obama or David Cameron will send people to jail.
The best Buhari can do is to prosecute the alleged corrupt individuals while allowing the judiciary to decide their fate.
Sunday Njokede: Benny, you are carried away by the theory of Separation of Powers. In practice, the President can send anybody to jail. Obama made sure an ex-governor of his state went to jail when the President was aware that the latter wanted to ‘sell’ the Senate seat Obama had vacated. Nobody dares the President and goes free.
Lucas: The President can only make a complaint like any other citizen; it is left for relevant agencies to take it from there. America is not like Nigeria where anything goes and the US President is an emperor. The US democracy is so mature that such nonsense is unheard of. Obama could even face impeachment if he oversteps his limits.
Buhari does not even have the power to prosecute anybody much less sending them to jail. Is he a lawyer or the Anthony General of the Federation? He can make a complaint or order an investigation. But that is as far as it goes with him.
Keu4Success: I want to believe that there are, indeed, some forces within the APC which are bent on sabotaging the hard-earned change Nigerians voted for during the last general elections. Otherwise, why is the Dogara-led faction so stubborn? I think the faction is only looking for flimsy excuses to justify its agenda. They are hiding under the cloak of zoning to advance their selfish desire.
Himazi: Well, Nigerians were forewarned by those who could see afar. When everyone is attacking a particular person and forming alliance against the person, you can always suspect that it is for selfish reasons. Those who ruined the Peoples Democratic Party left the party to form new PDP. The APC quickly took advantage of the situation and formed a partnership with them with the purpose of hijacking power. They told Nigerians that they were going to bring change to the country. But their supporters failed to ask them the kind of change they were championing.
Akin: Even if you bring in the best person in the world to rule Nigeria under the current politician structure, there won’t be much change. It is all about power grabbing and position sharing. The country is drifting apart gradually.
Tola: Most of us who watched the whole charade in Abuja have concluded that the current structure, as against returning to regionalism after getting rid of the military, is not workable because it increases ethnic discontentment and distrust. This makes the country ungovernable, even if by the best of leaders. The northerners have a new spring to their steps, the South-West have lost out except for the Vice President and the South-East has nothing. The party, which we fought to the ground, has been given a new breath of life as result of political horse trading that is fuelled by ethnic sentiments.

I’ve kissed many girls during shows – Kiss Daniel

Kiss Daniel
Fast rising singer, Kiss Daniel, speaks with CHUX OHAI about his career and sundry issues
As an undergraduate of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, where he studied water engineering, popular singer, Kiss Daniel (real name Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe), had to divide his time between studies and song writing.
Although he was passionate about music and sometimes dreamed of a future brightened with a successful music career, his studies actually came first in his personal scale of preference.
The result was that, unlike many other singers who dropped out of school to embrace music and stardom, Daniel graduated from the university with a Second Class Upper degree in 2013.
The following year, he took the music scene by storm with the hit song, Woju.
Recalling the past, he says, “If I had failed to find a records label that would be willing to sign me on, after completing youth service, I would have moved on to the United Kingdom for a Masters degree and afterwards, searched for a job as initially planned.”
The singer, easily one of the youngest in Nigeria to make it to the top spot at 21, thinks that his success is divinely ordained.
“The fact that I got a records label during youth service and not when I was still in school shows there is a reason for it. It is as if everything is perfectly timed. If I had found a label when I was an undergraduate, I definitely would have dropped out of school. But I thank God that everything has happened at the right time,” he says.
Most people might wonder where this young man, is called ‘Kiss’. But he says, in an interview with our correspondent, that it was originally a pseudonym given to him by his friends and admirers back in the university.
“They called me ‘Kiss’ because of my dimples. Back in school, a lot of people, including my fans, knew me by that name. Only a few people, except my close friends, knew that my real name is Oluwatobiloba,” he says.
Daniel attributes his active involvement in music, even at the age of 11, to his background.
He says, “I come from a family of artists. My late dad was a painter who also did a bit of songwriting on the side. My sister works with Cool FM as a presenter and my brother is a fashionista. You can see that my family is well grounded in creativity. Besides, dad always encouraged us to be self-employed. He would tell us to use our God-given talents to make a living for ourselves. So when I was starting out as a music artiste he supported me.”
Unfortunately, he lost his father about two months ago. Before the sad event, he had enjoyed a special relationship with him – something that was a shade deeper than a normal father-son relationship.
“Dad was my number one fan and my best friend. He is still my best friend because I still talk to him every day, even in death. We were so close that we used to discuss the kind of things that a father and son would usually not talk about. Even when I had sex for the first time, I recall discussing the experience with him,” he says.
The singer’s greatest regret in life, perhaps, is not fulfilling his promise to buy his father a new car on his birthday. The latter died, regrettably, just before his son hit it big on the music scene.
Nevertheless, Daniel, who prides himself in being the ‘baby of the music industry’, says that despite his success and the resulting fame he enjoys, nothing has changed about him. “I am still the same shy and gentle person that I have always been. The only thing that has changed about me is that I don’t go out as often as I used to do,” he says.
Admitting that Woju’s huge success came with the expected financial benefits, he insists that he is only “successfully comfortable” and not very rich.
He says, “I don’t lack anything. If I want or need anything, I can get it any time.”
This does not include beautiful and willing young women, most of who would do anything possible to hang out with him. Yet, Daniel complains of being ‘mobbed’ by such female fans each time he performs on stage.
“On one occasion in Warri, some of the female fans got so excited to see me perform live that they literally tore my shirt to shreds. I get kissed on stage a lot. Most of the time, when I go to shows, I already know I am going to kiss a girl or more. There was this show I attended in Ibadan. A girl came up to dance with me. While we were dancing, she kissed me and I got carried away for a few moments,” he reveals.
Contrary to an online report, Kiss Daniel denies ever endorsing gay marriage. “I don’t know where people got that information. I have never supported gay marriage. Why would I do that?” he says.

Helen Paul unveiled as Harpic ambassador

Helen Paul
Reckit Benckiser, Nigeria has unveiled comedienne, presenter and singer, Helen Paul-Bamisile, as the face of its Harpic toilet cleaner.
The ceremony, held in Lagos on Wednesday, marked the beginning of the Harpic All in One Toilet Solution Campaign, which involves a series of activities.
While the comedienne savoured the glamour that characterised the unveiling – and the obviously fat cheque that accompanies it, though the value of the deal was not revealed – Reckitt Benckiser’s Marketing Director-West Africa, Mr. Oguzhan Silivrili, said the main goal of the new campaign was to enlighten consumers on what he called the superiority of Harpic over traditional toilet cleaning methods.
He said, “We know that consumers want products that can remove tough stains, kill germs and freshen their toilets. This is why you see some people buy detergent, bleach and toilet fresheners for their toilets. This campaign is good news to such consumers. They will now realise they can conserve their cash for other things since they don’t need to buy three different products for their toilets. Now, they can get all they need in one product- Harpic.”
Helen, who has continued to consolidate her versatility and relative scandal-free career, expressed excitement at becoming the Harpic ambassador.
.She said, “To have been chosen as the face of Harpic among the galaxy of stars in Nigeria is humbling and encouraging,”
She promised to bring joy to consumers and drive home all the important messages the brand wants to convey in this campaign.
Also, the Marketing Manager Harpic, RB West Africa, Bamigbaiye-Elatuyi Omotola, said that in the last few years, Harpic had undertaken the task of educating Nigerians on issues of   toilet cleanliness and hygiene, citing the Harpic Experience Moments where various activities are lined up to reach amillion homes yearly across 16 cities.

Thugs attack readers at newsstand

Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola
Some hoodlums on Thursday invaded a newsstand in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, and beat up readers found there for criticising Governor Rauf Aregbesola over his inability to pay workers in the state.
Our correspondent gathered that the readers were at a newsstand opposite the old Governor’s Office and were discussing the issue when the hoodlums stormed the place and attacked them.
The owner of the stand, who identified himself as Sherif, told our correspondent on the telephone that the hoodlums came in a large number.
He added that they descended on everybody, destroyed his stand and tore newspapers found there into shreds.

He said, “A spy sent by the hoodlums came here and said he wanted to buy a newspaper.
“We asked him which of the newspapers, but he said anyone. Suddenly, some thugs invaded this place. Some readers and I saw them on time and fled.
“But they manhandled others, who could not escape. The thugs beat them up mercilessly. They tore all my newspapers and destroyed the stand.”
One of the victims of the victims, Olufemi Fadeyi, said the hoodlums came while the readers were engrossed in the argument for and against the governor over the nonpayment of workers’ salaries.
He stated that majority Of the readers were criticising the governor for not paying workers’ salaries and one of them stepped aside and made a telephone call.
Fadeyi said some minutes after, the hoodlums stormed the newsstand and started raining blows and flogging those found there.
He said, “The hoodlums were armed.
“They rounded us up, but some escaped. They beat those caught and destroyed the stand.”
The Chairman of Newspapers Distributor Association in the state Alhaji Muhammed Olaiya, condemned the attack while calling on security operatives to fish out those behind it.
The attack also attracted the wrath of the Osun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
The Secretary of NUJ in Osun State, Mr. Bamigbola Gbolahunte, said,   “Any attempt to take the nation back to the dark military days shall be resisted by all lovers of democracy, including the NUJ.”
The Civil Societies Coalition for Emancipation of Osun State also condemned the attack.
The group’s Chairman, Adeniyi Sulaiman, said those behind the attack were afraid of the people because they had something to hide.

Robbers stab security man to death

wasiu okanlawon killed
A security man, identified as Wasiu Okanlawon, has been stabbed to death by armed robbers in the Ile Zik, Ikeja area of Lagos.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Wasiu, who was attacked last Friday at about 9pm, was killed while he and a female colleague were returning home from work.
It was gathered that Okanlawon and the colleague, whose name had yet to be ascertained, were going in a commercial bus, when the bus had a flat tyre. The bus passengers were said to have alighted, while the driver tried to change the tyre.
The robbers, whose number had yet to be identified, reportedly came out of hiding and attacked the stranded passengers.

A colleague of the deceased, who spoke with PUNCH Metro on condition of anonymity, said Okanlawon was stabbed to death when he prevailed on the robbers not to sexually harass his female colleague.
He said, “He and the lady from our office were in the commercial bus going home. When they got to the Ile Zik Junction in Ikeja, the commercial bus had a flat tyre, and all the passengers alighted.
“They stood by the roadside, while the driver changed the tyre. Suddenly, the robbers came out and began to rob the passengers of their possession.
“They came with weapons and attacked them. Wasiu (Okanlawon), who was with his laptop, tried to escape from the area, but he noticed that they had descended on the lady, so he went back. It was then that the robbers collected his phones and the laptop, before stabbing him in the neck.”
Our correspondent gathered that Okanlawon was rushed to a nearby hospital after the robbers had left, but he died on the way.
“The control room of our security company was called. Okanlawon was rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, but their efforts did not yield any result,” the source added.
It was gathered that the matter was reported at the Ikeja Police Division, while Okanlawon’s corpse was dropped at the LASUTH’s morgue.
It was learnt that Okanlawon, who had yet to marry, was planning his wedding for September 2015.
A police source told our correspondent that although the deceased was a muslim, his burial was being delayed so that an autopsy to establish the cause of his death would be carried out.
It was added that the female colleague had been invited by the police for questioning.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident.
He added that investigation was ongoing on the matter.
He said, “Investigations into the incident have commenced.
“The police will soon apprehend the culprits.”

Tinubu Magistrate’s Court
The police in Lagos have arrested a security guard manning a plaza on Balogun Street, Lagos Island, Peter Ataro, and a load carrier, Asu Cusmars, for allegedly stealing pairs of shoes worth N2m.
It was said that the guard had connived with Cusmars and one Obi, who is still at large, to cart away the wares from a store in the plaza around 11pm on June 20.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Obi had approached 24-year-old Ataro on the fateful day to allow him pass the night at the plaza ─ a request to which he consented.
Our correspondent was told that while the guard was away, Cusmars came into the plaza.
He and Obi reportedly burgled a shop stocked with ladies’ shoes.

It was gathered that Obi escaped from the scene with the stolen items.
However, 25-year-old Cusmars was not lucky, as a resident of the area alerted the police, leading to his arrest.
However, the guard, in his statement to the police, absolved himself of blame in the matter.
He said, “Obi and Asu (Cusmars) help traders here to carry their loads. Obi lives close to the plaza.
“He came to me that night and said the gate of the house, where he resides, had been locked.
“He begged me to allow him to sleep on the premises. I was on duty around the plaza when I was called that Obi and his friend had looted a store.”
But Cusmars reportedly owned up to the crime in his statement.
He told the police that was the second time the store would be looted, adding that he did not partake in the first operation.
The two suspects were brought before a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court on two counts of stealing by a police prosecutor, ASP Chidi Okoye.
The charges read, “That you, Peter Ataro, of Ajanlekoko Street, Kirikiri; Asu Cusmars, of Balogun Street, Lagos Island; and one other at large, between Saturday and Sunday June 21, 2015, at First Class Plaza 14/21, Balogun Street, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire to commit felony punishable under Section 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
“That you, and one other at large, on the same dates and place, in the aforesaid magisterial district, did break into the store of one Odo Ikechukwu, and steal lady shoes, valued at N2m, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 288 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.”
The defendants pleaded not guilty before the presiding magistrate, Miss. O.A. Awogboro.
They were admitted to bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety each in like sum.
Awogboro adjourned the case till July20, 2015.

Government agencies train non-oil exporters

In order to improve expertise and participation in export trade, government regulatory agencies in the non-oil export sector have trained exporters on the quality requirements of their products.
At the forum organised by Rays of Light International in Lagos, the agencies stressed the importance of obtaining an export licence and other appropriate documents.
The Assistant Chief Trade Promotion Officer, Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Mr. Joseph Ogungbade, said at the forum that every exporter must have a licence issued by the NEPC.
He advised the exporters to make adequate preparation with the suppliers of their products within the country before receiving orders from the importing country.
This, according to him, will make price negotiation and other processes involved easy.
He added that those with existing contracts would need to renegotiate due to the fluctuating prices in the international market.
Ogungbade said, “When you don’t key in at the beginning of the season, it is difficult to penetrate the market. If you don’t get that timing right, you could get yourself in trouble. If you want to go into cashew, for example, you need to get a prospective buyer before the season begins.”
Speaking on the quality requirements of processed and semi-processed foods for export, the Deputy Director, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, the Export Trade Division, Mrs. Comfort Makanjuola, said that laboratory evaluation of the products would identify products fit and unfit for consumption.
According to her, the laboratory evaluation is free and each receiving country has its quality specification, which exporters must know.
Makanjuola said, “Inspection or sampling is essential to ensure that goods for export are prepared and inspected at a certified establishment. The agency insists on laboratory analysis of all regulated products, processed and semi-processed foods before export.”
The Deputy Controller for Export, Apapa, Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Bello Abubakar, said that the NCS was saddled with the responsibility of controlling smuggling and ensuring that the documents of exporters were complete.
Enlightening the participants on the loans available to support non-oil exporters, an official of the Bank of Agriculture, Tokunbo Afolabi, said there were funds for exporters could meet its requirements.
According to him, micro businesses are given a maximum of one year to repay loans while the SMEs have a maximum of five years with an option of moratorium to repay credit facilities.
Commenting on the benefits of export trade to the country, the Chief Executive Officer, 3T Impex Trade Academy, Mr. Bamidele Ayemibo, said that the Nigeria’s trade relations with other countries would improve its Gross Domestic Product.
He added that the export proceeds would strengthen the currency, create jobs and improve the earnings of farmers.
“Exporting our products will expose us to the inexhaustible markets around the world and thereby present unique opportunities for the Small and Medium Enterprises to grow. Massive exportation of Nigerian commodities and products will bring in hard currencies as export proceeds and thus strengthen the naira and other currencies of the world.”
