Part of the  measures being adopted by the NIS is collaborating with transporters, who ply international routes to check the influx of irregular immigrants.
Towards this end, the Comptroller of Immigration Lagos State Command, Mrs Justina Aladi Ahmadu, held a  meeting on Tuesday June 7, with representatives of transportation companies in Lagos state to seek their cooperation.
Mrs Ahmadu, while speaking during the meeting which had in attendance representatives of BC Chisco. The Young Shall Grow Motors amongst others, urged the transporters to ensure that their passengers have valid travelling documents before embarking on journeys.
She said: “The Immigration Service Lagos State Command as part of measures to check insecurity in the country and stop irregular Immigrants , is synergising with the transporters especially those who ply international routes to always ensure that their passengers have valid travelling documents.
“The Nigeria Immigration Service is not against anyone coming into the country but such Immigrants  must be regularized. They should have valid travelling documents, they should come in through the authorized routes and their passports  must be endorsed to indicate that they came in through the authorized routes”.

Mrs Ahmadu also solicits the cooperation of Nigerians in tackling irregular migrants. She said “Security is everybody’s business. We are craving the indulgence of Nigerians to cooperate with Immigration officers in the course of carrying out their lawful duties pertaining to raiding irregular migrants. Any obstruction is unlawful”.
However she had earlier decorated newly promoted officers with their new ranks. She urged the officers  to rededicate themselves to their duties stating that “To whom  much is given, much is  expected”.
