Woman will appear on $10 bill

For the first time in more than a century, a woman will finally get space on the nation’s paper currency but she may have to share it with a man.

The $10 bill, up for a redesign in 2020, will feature a female face, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew announced Wednesday. He’s also considering keeping Alexander Hamilton, the current resident of the bill and the nation’s first Treasury secretary, on some of the notes.
The decision to change the ten-spot came as feminist groups have been pushing for a woman on the currency in 2020 to mark the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote. Sharing space with Hamilton who not only conceived the nation’s financial system but also served as a protagonist in the nation’s first sex scandal wasn’t exactly what they had in mind.

A nonprofit organization, Women On 20s (Slogan: “A woman’s place is on the money”), has been campaigning instead to get rid of Andrew Jackson, the nation’s seventh president, whose face appears on the $20 bill. Jackson’s record of removing Native Americans from their land and his opposition to the central banking system made him a good candidate to be yanked, they’ve argued.
Harriet Tubman was the winner of a poll the organization conducted to determine which woman should replace Jackson.

U.S. currency has rarely undergone major redesigns, but in 2013, the $10 bill was chosen for a remake partly to beef up protections against counterfeit threats, the Treasury said.

Lew said putting a woman on a bill had been under consideration well before his tenure at Treasury began, and President Barack Obama endorsed the idea last year, when he called it a “pretty good idea” during a July speech about the economy in Kansas City.

The Obama administration will be considering nominations of prominent women in U.S. history over the coming months and expects to announce its selection at the end of the summer, the Treasury said.

Lew said it was “personally very important” to him to preserve Hamilton’s place of honor on the $10. So whether it’s by printing $10s with different faces, or with multiple portraits on a single one, the woman will have to share with Hamilton.

In fact, Hamilton shared his bed with more than one woman making him one of the first subjects of a political sex scandal.

While his wife, Elizabeth, and kids were staying with relatives, Hamilton began an affair with a young woman named Maria Reynolds in 1791. He was secretary of the Treasury at the time, and Reynolds and her husband started extorting money from Hamilton. Hamilton eventually confessed to the affair in full detail in a pamphlet that also featured letters between him and his mistress.

NNPC: So Refineries Can Work?

Call it facing the realities of change that seemed impossible before now and you may not be wrong. Let us again remind the NNPC that refineries are national assets that should be guarded jealously. With potentials for up to 6000 investment opportunities when we refine a barrel of crude, our refineries are strategic for energy, technology, employment, skills, increased GDP and government revenue.
Alas! For over three months Nigerians in bewilderment groped and constituted themselves into search parties for fuel from any benevolent marketer, to purchase available drops of premium motor spirit (PMS), dual purpose kerosene (DPK) or automotive gas oil (AGO). It became a national emergency when banks, airlines and telecommunication operators threatened withdrawal of services.
We were over a barrel as our petroleum managers tried to justify scarcity artificialisation, as unique selling point to orchestrate deregulation of the downstream sector. They reduced activities of the National Oil Company downstream sector to import of refined products and spurious ‘subsidy’ claims, which the immediate past Minister of Finance Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala engaged marketers in arm’s – length transactions.
The Group Managing Director (GMD)of NNPC, Dr. Joseph Dawha last week inspected retail outlets in Abuja, saying that Port Harcourt Refinery would commence production in July 2015 and would process about five million litres per day would. And this week Warri Refinery was given a production nod in a fortnight.
One had wished he told Nigerians what had become of the empire he superintended that refineries could not function for years. He failed to address how fairly new process plants became aged infrastructure, which subsequent disruptions hamstring operations and impede 6000 investment opportunities for vertical economic diversification. This issue is not about Dawha and his former co-travellers on NNPC saddle, but about Nigeria and the system that perpetuates degeneracy and inefficiency.
The second Port Harcourt Refinery which Dawha said would come on stream in July 2015 is 150,000 barrels per day capacity was constructed in 1989. At optimum level it can process over 11million litres of PMS, over 2.3 million litres of household kerosene (HHK), over 5.4million litres of automotive gas oil (AGO) and other byproducts per stream day. These three give 80 percent of 105 percent when we refine a barrel of crude oil. The GMD did not tell us that.
Also, 450,000 barrels per day of crude are allocated to the four refineries (when actual capacity of the four refineries is 445,000 barrels per day) that were dead. Did we hear they swap 450,000 barrels of crude per day with foreign traders in what they call Offshore Processing Agreements (OPAs)? A swap contract is an agreement to reciprocal exchange.
With the crude oil swap of 13,950,000 barrels monthly (450,000 barrels daily), we should get in return about 1,040,909,940litres of PMS, 221,470,200 litres of DPK and 509,381,460 litres of AGO in one month. These three make up 80 percent of byproducts. There are other byproducts. Our four refineries (if allowed to function at optimal capacity) can process PMS of 209,150 barrels (about 33.2 million litres) per day. Nigeria imports about one million tonnes (1111320000litres)) of PMS monthly (31 days); and that translates to (about 35.8million litres) per day consumption. The difference between what we consume and what the four refineries can process is about 2.3 million litres (is less than 15,000 barrels that we may import) daily.
What does the NNPC mean when in another breathe they employ local marketers who import and claim subsidy on products like PMS, DPK and the AGO? The government pays a subsidy on the imports, which is the difference between the landing cost of the fuel and the officially regulated pump price.
According to Dawha, the NNPC is carrying out a phased implementation of the rehabilitation of the refineries (which was almost going for a rummage sale but for the labour unions). He said they took a conscious decision that if the refineries are not in good state, to process crude for maximum gains, then there was no point in sending crude to the refineries. What we do is to try and fix it, so that by the time it starts processing the crude, then we get real value for the crude we have sent to the refineries.
Winston Churchill said ‘’I am an optimist. It does not seem too much use being anything else’’ That quote had encouraged one to constantly challenge our petroleum resources managers on why refining is the best option; a call they consistently ignored. That the NNPC would be talking of processing crude for a maximum gain is what one has been advocating. One is surprised at this turnaround from the NNPC which had initially prepared for the sale of the refineries.
Dawha did not tell us the real state of the refineries and why for about two decades now could not process crude. Nigerians demand explanation on why they go through these harrowing experiences. The refineries have been idle with the full complement of staff members. Wages and salaries with accompanying overheads are paid monthly. In economics, they have been operating at shutdown points for about two decades.
Could we equally assume some quantities of crude meant for the refineries (swapped 450,000 barrels of crude per day) and other barrels from export terminal pipelines might have been stolen, sold in the Togo triangle and ending in western refineries? Our refined products are mostly from Northwest Europe. One hopes that President Muhammadu Buhari presented the matter of oil theft by the west to the G7 Summit of industrialised nations on June 8, 2015 in Bavaria, Germany.
Was President Buhari in this honeymoon period able to convince the leaders of the G7 to assist in repatriating Nigeria’s stolen crude oil money stashed away in their banks and elsewhere? The G7 needed to be told that fund recovered could be the fulcrum for Nigeria’s social-economic development.
The President can provide good governance without recourse to G7 assistance if he recovers these funds. Foreign Direct Investment that the President requested for could have been in the area of partnerships in constructing refineries, petrochemical plants and power plants.
We are now facing the reality of a new government that may change what was ordinarily perceived to be impossible. Let the NNPC be reminded that our oil refineries are national assets that should be guarded jealously. That is what it is with other OPEC members and else where. With potentials for up to 6000 investment opportunities when we refine a barrel of crude, our refineries are strategic for energy, technology, skills, investment, employment, increased GDP and government revenue which we earnestly desire.

Eagles need Mikel, Emenike – Ezeugo

Emeka Ezeugo has expressed his desire to see Mikel Obi, Emmanuel Emenike, Ikechukwu Uche, Victor Moses and Efe Ambrose back in Nigeria’s lineup again.
The Super Eagles got off their Gabon 2017 Africa Cup of Nations   qualification campaign to a blistering start with a 2-0 defeat of Chad at the Ahmadu Bello   Stadium in Kaduna last Saturday, with the five players omitted from the squad for the encounter.
Nigeria are pitted against record seventh-time champions Egypt, Tanzania and Chad in Group G of the Gabon 2017 qualifying series.
The Eagles, who missed out on a place in the 2015 tournament in Equatorial Guinea,   travel to Tanzania on September 5 to face the Taifa Stars – and host Egypt on March 23, 2016.
The Eagles struggled for creativity to break down a resilient Chadian side   for 62 minutes until Warri Wolves forward Gbolahan Salami hit the back of the net in the 63rd minute. Watford sensation   Odion Ighalo converted a penalty for the second goal to put the game beyond Les Sao.
And former Nigeria midfielder Ezeugo, who   hailed the Eagles’ winning start to their Gabon 2017 qualifiers, believes the three-time African champions can win all their games.
The former Denmark-based player lavished praise on Anderson Esiti and Kingsley Madu, saying the debutants deserved commendation for their showing against Chad.
But the Senegal ’92 Africa Cup of Nations bronze medallist insists the Eagles (who faced Chad) lack players of real quality, urging   Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi not to bow to pressure to leave   Chelsea midfielder Mikel, Chelsea forward Moses, New Tigres de la UANL striker Uche Ikechukwu and Celtic defender Ambrose out of his plans for the qualifiers.
The players helped Nigeria win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
“There was no exceptional player in our team, but they played very well,” Ezeugo, who represented Nigeria at the Seoul ’88 Olympic Games and USA’94 World Cup, told our correspondent on the telephone during the week.
“The new players (Slovenia-based Madu and Holland-based Esiti) are good. But   they need time to integrate themselves into the team.”
The 47-year-old, who plied his trade in Denmark, Malaysia, India, United States, Spain, Hungary, Wales and Peru before hanging up his boots after a season at Peruvian side Estudiantes de Medicina in 2001, added, “We still Mikel, Moses, Uche, Emenike and Ambrose in the Eagles.
“They are big names, and have the experience to make the team stronger. We still need our experienced players back in the team.
“We can’t afford to miss out on a place in the 2017 the Africa Cup of Nations. Keshi should invite them for our next   game.”
Mikel was restricted to bit-part role at Chelsea following   Nemanja Matic’s return to Stamford Bridge in the January 2014 transfer window. The 28-year-old   was also be plagued by injuries and only returned late April to play a part in the Blues’ Premier League triumph.
Emenike endured a difficult season in Turkey, scoring only four league goals in 27 appearances for Fenerbahce, while Uche struggled with injuries and poor form – and managed to score   only six goals in 23 appearances for his former Spanish La Liga side Villarreal last season.
Ambrose and Moses also struggled with form and injuries last season.
Ezeugo   says Keshi deserves all the credit for giving more young players the chance to shine, despite criticism from some sections of the media, saying the country will have a team that can challenge for titles in the future.

Revenue collectors chase school bus into a ditch at Nkpor

ONITSHA – There was a pandamonium yesterday at the popular Nkpor Junction in Idemili North local Government Area of Anambra state, near the commercial city of Onitsha as revenue contractors chased a school van into a ditch on the process of carrying out what they termed as ‘operation show your emblem receipt’ and smashed some items at a newspaper stand.
This incident is coming barely two days after the police in the state arrested two revenue agents of the state for allegedly killing one Okechukwu Onwuamaegbum, a driver attached to The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Mission during the process of demanding for the driver’s same vehicle emblem.
The driver of the school bus, a Mitsubishi L300 with Inscription: “Diocese on the Niger Ascension Nursery & Primary School, Isiafor”, according to the source, was driving past the Junction yesterday morning when the revenue contractors started chasing him with motorbike.
Eye-witnesses said that as the three-man task force emblem revenue collectors chased the driver, the driver, sensing danger and suspecting that they were armed robbers, swerved into a side drainage and one of the vehicle’s front tyres crossed over the drainage and punctured.
A newspaper vendor who simply identified herself as Mrs. Ikpe, whose newspaper stand was partially smashed by the vehicle, told newsmen shortly after the incident that if the front tyre had not punctured and forced the vehicle to an abrupt stop, the vehicle would have climbed the drainage with the high speed and would have pulled down her newsstand completely and possibly kill some newspaper readers at the moment.
She disclosed that when the revenue contractors discovered that the bus had fallen into the drainage and destroyed few things on sale at her newsstand, they quickly jumped into their motorbike and wanted to zoom off but due to a traffic jam that held them back, passersby grabbed them and were about to lynch them when personnel of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC who positioned their ‘Operation Kpochapu’ patrol van within the Junction to checkmate the activities of hoodlums in the area, intervened and rescued them.
She further disclosed that after rescuing them, the NSCDC officials took them and the driver to Ogidi Police Station and handed them over to the police for interrogations.
Chief Christian Ikpe, owner of the newsstand and husband to Mrs. Ikpe, told newsmen on phone that at the police station, the main government contractor who employed the revenue taskforce men that caused the pandamonium, begged for forgiveness and pledged to enlighten his boys on the appropriate civil manner of going about their emblem revenue drive.

Lol. Beer pulled from grocery store shelves over offensive name

An Ohio grocery chain has pulled a popular beer from its shelves because of its controversial name.
Sweet Baby Jesus! is a chocolate and peanut butter porter by the Baltimore-based DuClaw Brewing Co.
Heinen’s, a grocery store chain based in Cleveland, recently decided to stop selling the beer after customers complained that the name was "offensive."

Heinen’s began selling the porter two months ago.

Duclaw founder Dave Benfield said
“When you push boundaries and try to get one group excited about it, inevitably people are going to get upset on one side or the other,” . “The name’s not meant to be offensive, it’s not meant to be derogatory… “We liked the phrase [Sweet Baby Jesus!], which at least to us, is a phrase of excitement or astonishment.”
Benfield said this is the first time the beer has been pulled from a chain of stores. Complaints about the name, however, are not new.

Benfield told reporters that the peanut butter porter has been removed from military bases in the past. But he noted that the beer often ends up being restocked after a few weeks.

"There's a lot more people who are upset they can't get it," Benfield said.

However, +Sweet Baby Jesus! beer can still be found in several stores in Ohio.

Tottenham star Harry Kane pinpoints Chelsea thrashing as his defining moment of the season

HARRY KANE will never forget the day he realised he felt at home playing among the best.

He is here in the Czech Republic determined that England can make up for their opening 1-0 defeat by Portugal in these European Under-21 Championships when they face Sweden tomorrow.
And if can score, or make an impact, it will be the next chapter in the story which really took off on New Year’s Day this year when Spurs thrashed Chelsea 5-3, a match he still watches in his spare moments.
Before the Chelsea game, Kane had been the player Spurs were nurturing for the future.
Suddenly, as he scored two goals, made another and ran John Terry and Gary Cahill ragged in a thrilling victory, he became the present.
Harry Kane
Harry Kane celebrates scoring against Chelsea
“I think Chelsea were the first top four side I’d played against,” said Kane.
“So to get two goals and an assist and win the way we did showed me I could do it against any team, not just Europa League opponents, not just teams in the bottom half of the Premier League, but against anybody.
“I have watched it back. Sometimes, if I’m at home, and there’s nothing on, I’ll have a little look, not just at that game, all my games. I like to do that and see what I can improve on.
“That was a great time for me and a great game, but that was hopefully just the beginning. You have to keep doing it season after season, and that’s what I’ll be looking to do next season.”

As Kane said yesterday that he is completely “happy” at White Hart Lane and, while “flattered” that he is being linked with a massive bid from Manchester United, he considers Spurs a sufficiently “big club” to fulfil his ambitions.
So what motivates him, when he could take his pick of clubs after a sensational breakthrough season in which he scored 31 goals for Spurs, another 79 seconds into his senior England debut and is now leading the line for England Under-21s in Euro 2015?
“To win trophies, and to be one of the best players in the world,” he said. “As any footballer growing up, you want to be the best you can. The top players around the world are doing it week in week out, scoring goals and putting in great performances, and that’s what I aim to achieve.
“I want to win trophies, not just for club, for country. That’s always been the aim and always will be.”
Many players whose stock have risen not as high as Kane’s have found themselves withdrawn from contention for European Under-21 Championships.
Harry Kane
Kane was left disappointed after England's Under-21s lost to Portugal
But, even when Spurs announced they were going on a post-season tour Down Under, he was dead set on joining up with team-mates who have become pals over the past two years.
“I made it clear I always wanted to be here,” he said, preparing for tomorrow’s pivotal group game. “It’s a great experience for me, I had a great campaign with the lads, so it’s a chance for me to come away and play with my mates in a big tournament.
“We’re still upbeat and we’re still excited for the games ahead and we know what we can achieve.”
Tomorrow will be his 60th competitive game of a remarkable season but he still feels fresh – “I’m probably as fit as I ever have been,” he said. “I’m happy.”

PSG make £28.5m bid to BEAT Chelsea to Atletico star after giving up on Man Utd flop

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN have made a £28.5million bid for Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann, according to reports.

Griezmann was heavily linked with Chelsea earlier in the transfer window.
The French forward has a £43million release clause in his contract that Chelsea are reportedly unwilling to meet.
And reports in Italy suggest that PSG are now ready to test Atletico's resolve to keep the 24-year-old.
PSG have previously been linked with a move for Manchester United's Angel Di Maria or Juve star Paul Pogba.

But it is thought the French giants only have money for one big-name signing this summer due to Financial Fair Play rules.
And Griezmann could now be that man as long as Chelsea aren't spurred into action by PSG's move.

Dazzling Karen Carney eyes quarter-final spot for England's lionesses at World Cup

ENGLAND'S wing wizard Karen Carney is aiming to cast a victory spell as Mark Sampson’s team look to reach the quarter-finals of the Women’s World Cup by beating Norway in Ottawa on Monday.

Karen Carney
Karen Carney got the winning goal for England
Birmingham City star Carney, nicknamed ‘The Wizard’ by head coach Sampson, was outstanding as England finished second in their group to qualify for the knockout stages.
She hit goals in the wins against Mexico and Colombia and, after being substituted in the second half of Wednesday’s meeting with Las Cafeteras, she is set to face a Norway team that also finished second in their group.
“I was taken off against Colombia partly because I’m having to manage myself after not playing many games coming into the tournament,” said Carney, who had a back problem earlier in the season.
“But it was also as a precaution because I’d got booked in my first appearance.
“I’m absolutely fine though, and in any case we’ve got such a fantastic squad that any of the players can come on and do an excellent job.
“Every outfield player we’ve got here has now got minutes, which is very important because tournament football is a squad game.
“We’ve achieved our first objective by getting through to the knockout stage, we just need to re-adjust our focus now because every game is going to be tough.
“They won’t come much tougher than Norway because they’re a great team.
“They drew with Germany, who are the top team in the world, in their group so they’ll be going into Monday’s game full of confidence.
“But so will we – we’ve got better with each game we’ve played and we definitely feel we can get through this round.”

Penis tinz

He was a freshman in secondary school. On this night, the seniors were soaping (applying soap to their penises to get an erection and measure the length). Unless they were lying or his memory is failing him (it happened almost 40 years ago), he heard 10 inches, 11 inches, then eight inches (“boy, those guys were massive”). When it got to his “senior’s” turn, he registered under six inches and the others started laughing at him.
That was when he giggled and they knew he was awake (it was already lights out and they had used a torch to check earlier if he was asleep). He was hauled down from the double bunk, beaten up and “checked out.” Do not ask for the outcome: what did you expect from a frightened 11-year-old with a flaccid, no, shrunken penis.
I do not know the origin of man’s obsession with the size of his penis, but it might have started shortly after the fall of Adam when man suddenly found a more pleasurable use for it beyond urinating. This obsession seems to know no colour, ethnicity or nationality. About 10 years ago, the penises of 1200 volunteers from all over India were measured. The outcome of the survey showed that Indian men had smaller penises by international standards. Irked by the findings, Sunil Mehra, a former Indian magazine editor said: “It’s not size, it’s what you do with it that matters. From our population, the evidence is Indians are doing pretty well. With apologies to the poet Alexander Pope, you could say, for inches and centimetres, let fools contend.” National pride, not just individual or personal egos, was bruised.
These days on the internet, in newspapers and street walls, you see adverts of various penis enlargement products and methods. But what purpose does penis enlargement serve? Does it help men in siring children? Certainly not; as long as the man has healthy sperms, even a microscopic penis will get a woman pregnant. If not gorillas would since have gone extinct; they have one of the smallest penis (1.5 inches or 4cm when erect) compared to body size and weight. If size contributes nothing to reproduction, what is the craze for penis enlargement all about?
Beyond procreation, the other reason for sexual intercourse is pleasure. In fact this is the main reason many people get involved in sex; this is also the main reason why prostitution and other forms of sexual activities are rampant and booming? But does size matter in sexually satisfying a woman? The answer from research and interviews is yes and no. Yes, because some men suffer from “a rare micropenis condition… The disorder, which is present in 0.6 per cent of males, means the erect penile length is less than 7cm ( 2.7 inches). Such small penis will likely not give a woman the desired pleasure.” It might also totally erode a man’s confidence and self worth.
There have also been newspaper reports of wives suing for divorce because of their husbands’ “small penis.” But some people believe that skills, foreplay and stamina, rather than size, are the real issues in many of these penis-size-related divorce cases. In fact, John (not his real name) believes that “the size of the penis is not an issue. If it was, how come fingers which are much smaller than the penis can send women to seventh heaven? Men should go and learn how to satisfy their wives,” he concluded. Many women, from research finding, also said skills are more important than size in sexual satisfaction.
Now let us examine some more facts from a research finding. An average penis length is 5.6 inches. Meanwhile the vagina length, unstimulated, range from 2.75 inches to about 3.25 inches. When a woman is aroused, it increases between 4.25 inches to 4.75 inches. “Regardless of how long the vagina is, the area that is thought to be important for most women’s sexual response is the outer one-third.” The import of the above research finding is that the average-size penis is more than long enough to satisfy a woman.
Still on the vagina, Christine O’Connor, MD, Director of Adolescent Gynecology and Well Women Care at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore (United States) says it is “elastic. It is small enough to hold a tampon in place, but can expand enough to pass a child through. This is because the walls of the vagina are similar to those of the stomach; they…fold together to collapse when unused, then expand when necessary.”
If the above are true, why are men so obsessed with the size of their penis? The answer might be in the Daily Star(UK) story of Dr Roberto Viel and Dr Maurizio, identical twin brothers who specialise in penis enlargement. They said increased girth (circumference) of the penis can improve sex. According to two other studies, about 90 percent of women actually “prefer a wide penis to a long one.”
Roberto also said some men do “penis enlargement because their partners have had a few natural births and the vagina is stretched.” Dr. Martina Agberien, a medical doctor with the Nigerian Television Authority, corroborates: “Truth is that after child birth, the tightness is not much anymore. Some women…use some herbal stuff to wash their Vagina so as to have the tightness before sex.”
However, Roberto insists that most men do penis enlargement surgeries simply to feel more confident on the beach, in communal showers or in the lead up to sex. He said: “Men want to expose and show that they have a good sized penis when flaccid.”
So the craze for a longer penis has little to do with sex. In fact the length of the penis matters more to men than to women, according to a new study. The penis size seems to be more of an ego trip, a feel-good factor, a confidence booster, a psychological rather than a physical issue. Much ado about nothing? May be

MTN Nigeria gets investors in People Gold Accreditation

Leading ICT company in Nigeria, MTN has been awarded the prestigious Investors in People (IIP) Gold certification by the governing board of the UK-based organisation. The Investors in People Standard is a UK quality standard introduced in 1991. The Gold certification followed an earlier accreditation of MTN Nigeria as an Investor in People organization in 2013 – the first company in all of West Africa to receive such recognition.
The assessment of MTN Nigeria was carried out by a team of IIP assessors from the United Kingdom; their findings culminated in the award of the Investors In People Gold Level accreditation.
Organisations accredited by the IIP go through a series of precise assessments with particular reference to the company’s people management practices in line with the IIP Framework. The rigorous process involves the administration of structured questionnaires among all categories of employees and contract staff to establish the correlation between the company’s people management practices and business performance.
Recent studies into the impact of the IIP standards on performance in companies accredited by the body revealed that abiding by the IIP standards improved organisational performance regardless of organisational size, emphasising improvements in customer service, productivity and employees turnover. It further suggested that IIP enhances employee’s understanding of the businesses.
“For us, achieving the IIP Gold Standard is a validation of the strength of our Employee Value Proposition also known as the MTN Deal. Indeed, the accolades speak to the depth and impact of our people management practices. MTN Nigeria strongly believes that our people are our most critical competitive asset and a key differentiator in the marketplace.
The IIP Gold Accreditation is an independent and objective confirmation that we care about our people and deploy global best practice people solutions and policies that make MTN Nigeria a great place to work,” said Amina Oyagbola, Human Resources Executive, MTN Nigeria.
MTN’s Talent development strategy amongst other people investment interventions which have been carefully implemented over the years has facilitated rapid career development and up-skilling of the Nigerian work-force across all divisions of the company.
Oyagbola informed that 99% of MTN Nigeria’s workforce is Nigerian, and that 98% of senior management is also Nigerian, in line with MTN’s robust local content policy.
Beyond this, according to Oyagbola, the Gold certification will have a ripple effect on human capital development in Nigeria through MTN’s footprint everywhere you go. “We plan to share the benefits of the IIP standards through the MTN value chain. By this, I mean we will enable the development of best in class people management standards in our ecosystem – suppliers, contractors, trade partners and others in line with the IIP standards to improve their performance.
Speaking further, she explained that there will be periodic reassessments and interviews with MTN staff and contractors to ensure the IIP Gold standard is sustained to improve engagement, organizational profitability, performance and return on investments.
Speaking on the accreditation as a motivation for corporate governance that is value based, Mr. Akinwale Goodluck, Corporate Services Executive, MTN Nigeria said the company is consistent in its determination to motivate members of staff and other stakeholders.
“We are delighted to receive this global recognition; it is the highest accolade in people management practices from an independent and internationally recognised body. It has given us additional impetus and determination to continue to deploy global best practice and people solutions to contribute to the development of the nation.” Goodluck informed.
MTN Nigeria’s talent development creed has been demonstrated over the years through the rapid skills transfer to a predominantly Nigerian staff compliment since its inception and the export of Nigerian talent to various MTN Operating Units outside Nigeria.

See When Nigeria's First Nuclear Plant Will Be Ready

Godknows Igali, Ministry of Power, and Erepamo Osaisai, National Atomic Energy Commission, disclosed the year when the first nuclear plant will be constructed by National Atomic Energy Commission to be ready.
According to them,  the nuclear power plant will be built in 2026.
Osaisai disclosed that the first nuclear power plant will have the capacity to produce 1,000MW, which will be expanded to 4,000MW within 10 years of the establishment of the plant.
Erepamo Osaisai noted that the need for safety and security of power infrastructure could not be sacrificed at the altar of expediency even though the nation required urgent solution to its power crisis.
Osaisai announced: “Planning and implementing a nuclear power programme takes time. When you consider the national situation where we need significant amount of generation, the timeframe for implementing a nuclear power programme may appear like eternity but the key issue is that implementing a nuclear power programme comes with a large number of obligations.Nigeria is committed to ensuring that we are able to maintain a strict regime of safety, security and safeguard. That requires emplacement of key infrastructure. It takes time to develop it on the order of about 10 to 15 years even for very developed countries. So, it may appear that we have been doing it for a long time but we have just been meticulous, wanting to ensure that we are able to do it right. That is why it appears to be taking time but it has to be done right.”
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry Of Petroleum Resources, Taye Haruna adds that the use of radiation sources in different fields of practice in Nigeria is steadily growing and despite safety precautions in design and operations accidents involving radiation sources do occur, hence the need for the review.
Taye Haruna said: “Nigeria has been identified by the International Atomic Energy agency as a high priority country requiring significant agency’s input to be able to cope with any radiological or nuclear emergency. However, there should be a concomitant political will by the government of Nigeria to develop its capabilities to respond to any radiological or nuclear emergency and adequate preparedness for an emergency can substantially improve the response.Due to socio-economic development in Nigeria there has been widespread use of radiation sources in medicine, industry and research and teaching. There is no doubt that Nigeria is one of the largest users of radiation sources in sub-Saharan Africa”.

Juve boss: Beating Arsenal and Man Utd to Mandzukic does NOT mean Tevez joining Liverpool

MARIO MANDZUKIC is not on his way to Juventus as a replacement for Carlos Tevez, according to Massimo Allegri.

Juve have agreed a fee for Mandzukic - who was linked with Arsenal and Manchester United - but is now expected to have a medical in Turin on Monday.
Tevez has been linked with Liverpool and Atletico Madrid, although a return to Boca Juniors now looks the most likely outcome.
But Allegri insists that Mandzukic hasn't been bought as a direct replacement for Tevez.
It's not that we have to replace Tevez, but rather sign players and evaluate the playing style.
Massimo Allegri
Juve has already landed the likes of Sami Khedira and Paulo Dybala this summer and have a host of other players returning from loan deals elsewhere.
But Allegri isn't worried about a logjam.
He told Sky Sports Italia: "All of them can play, as during the season there will be room for everybody. We went all the way in every competition because of the strength in depth.
"It's not that we have to replace Tevez, but rather sign players and evaluate the playing style. Mandzukic has arrived, we have Simone Zaza, Kingsley Coman, Alvaro Morata and Dybala - all young players of great quality.

Carlos Tevez looks set to leave Juventus
"By the end of the transfer window I could have 10 players in the squad born after 1990.
"Mandzukic scored goals in every League, has strong character, is of an international level and will do well.
"We signed Mandzukic because we specifically wanted him. He's a great player and I am very happy."
