ANGEL DI MARIA admits he was off colour during his debut season with Manchester United because of a World Cup hangover.
Argentina lost in extra time against Germany in the final in Brazil as Mario Gotze struck to decide to the tie.
And the British record signing - who cost Manchester United £59.7million - suffered a difficult campaign at Old Trafford.
Di Maria started the season well, although it took United five games to claim their first win, but then struggled with fitness and form.
He started 20 times for United, and recorded ten assists, but came under fire when he failed to get in the team ahead of Ashley Young.
And the former Real Madrid star admits he - and his international team-mates - left everything in Brazil in their bid to become national heroes.
"The Angel Di Maria from before the World Cup and after the World Cup changed so much because we gave everything we had on the pitch," Di Maria toldGoal.com.
"It was my happiest moment. That was the most special thing that has happened to me. We weren’t able to win, but we gave everything on the pitch and we made history.
"Argentina were back in a World Cup final. We always said we wanted to become legends and we couldn’t do it. But that stays with us."
