Arsenal Transfer News: Increased Higuain bid, surprise Everton offer, striker blow
Arsenal will have to increase their initial bid if they want to secure a deal for Gonzalo Higuain, Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it reports.
The Gunners are said to have already made a £43million offer for the Argentina international, however Napoli are reportedly refusing to entertain any bids lower than his £66m release clause.
Everton are considering a deal for Gunners keeper David Ospina, according to reports in Colombia.
The report suggests Toffees boss Roberto Martinez has already spoken to the Colombia international about a possible move.
Martinez is keen to bring in a replacement for 36-year-old veteran keeper Tim Howard.
And Alexis Sanchez has been ruled out of the start of the season.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the 26-year-old will return to the Emirates towards the end of July after leading Chile to Copa America glory the summer.
He is expected to miss the Community Shield clash against Chelsea, and could be confined to the bench for Arsenal's first few matches of the new season.
Chelsea see £20m bid for Arsenal target turned down
CHELSEA have had a £20million bid for Real Madrid star Isco rejected, according to reports.
The Spain international struggled for regular game time under Carlo Ancelotti last term.
Recent reports indicated Real boss Rafa Benitez sees Isco as part of his plans for next season.
The Daily Mirror report Chelsea made a £20m bid for the 23-year-old, who has also garnered interest from Arsenal.
However, it was turned down as Real are reluctant to sell.
The Blues are thought to have declared their interest in Isco, as they are keen to sell Oscar.
But Juventus and Chelsea are believed to be miles apart in their valuation of the player.

He said at the weekend: "Bruce [Arena, the head coach] and the players and staff have already made me feel very welcome, I feel settled and I'm looking forward to playing with the guys.

MANCHESTER CITY'S hopes of signing Paul Pogba have received a boost with both Juventus and Barcelona dismissing suggestions they have reached an agreement for the midfielder.

Police to begin stop and search on roads and highways nationwide
Sequel to intelligence report, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon E. Arase NPM, fdc has directed the commencement of special stop and search on Roads and Highways nationwide, with emphasis on roads in and out of major cities/towns.
Citizens are enjoined to bear with the Nigeria Police Force during this security operation which is a temporary measure put in place to address the intelligence received.

True Change Takes Time, Gowon Tells Nigerians
Nigeria former head of state, General Yakubu Gowon, has warned Nigerians to be calm and not to rush the President Muhammadu Buhari as real change cannot happen within 30 days.
Gowon made this statement while speaking to Nigerian Tribune in Ibadan following complains by Nigerians that Buhari’s government is slow and has not done much in 30 days being in office.
He warned that rushing the leadership could result in the government taking bad decisions that might be adverse to the Nigerians whereby they may become the loser.
The former head of state noted that the problems confronting the country are enormous and it will take time to fix the problems. He pleads with Nigerians to give the leadership some time to tackle the country problems in a logical manner.
Gowon further stressed that Nigerians duty is to be responsible and make government accountable but held that it should be gradual.
“Give him a chance. You cannot solve any problem within two or three days. People say they want a change but as far as the problem of Nigeria is concerned, you cannot do it in one day, in one month. It will take time before a lot of these changes would be done and done effectively.”
“Let us give Buhari the chance to do things in the proper way to be able to get a good result. I have read it in some papers where people question him that in 30 days nothing has been done. It is unnecessary.”
“They criticised me when I was Head of State that the civil war was taking too long. I said, Yes, do they know some of the problems that are involved in dealing with some of those problems,” he said.

NAFDAC Takes Down Lagos Mall
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) yesterday shut down a Lagos based mall for selling counterfeit wines and spirits to the general public.
The regulatory officers of the agency had gone and visited three branches of the Mall located in Ajah, Gbagada and Magodo-Isheri.
The team leader of the Magodo-Isheri operation, Mr Andy Tamanuwa, a chief regulatory officer said that the closing down of the Mall was a routine exercise aimed to make sure that the Mall conformed to the approved regulatory standards.
Tambuwal revealed that they seized some products, which included popular brands and expensive imported alcoholic beverages. He said, “There were complaints received about the sale of cloned wines and spirits against the company and which were discovered to be true when we got here to inspect the place. We found the products and accordingly seized them. They will be evacuated from the outlet for further investigations.”
Tambuwal went forward and said “the exercise was extended to the Gbagada and Ajah outlets of the mall and they were equally sealed following same discoveries.”

FGC Principal Accused Of Impregnating Student
Alhaji Suleiman Ahmad, father of Aisha Suleiman, a 17-year-old student of Federal Government College, FGC, Jos, has denied allegations that the principal of the college, Mr. Muhammad Manko impregnated his daughter.
According to him, the allegation was the handiwork of detractors, who wanted “to tarnish the good character and image of his daughter, and her principal.”
He said his daughter was very healthy and not pregnant therefore, anyone in doubt should come and take her for a test at the hospital, Leadership reports.

Reports had earlier surfaced that the Parents Teachers’ Association (PTA) had accused the school principal of impregnating Aisha and offering to pay her dowry so she could become his wife. They therefore called for disciplinary actions, while some parents were thinking of taking their wards out of the college to avoid sexual harassment.
Ahmad explained that he had made the principal his daughter’s guardian when the school was operating a boarding system and he was still her guardian, stating that there was no such relationship that could lead to marital engagement between her and the principal.
According to him, he had no plans of marrying her off to the school principal.
The father said: “All I know is that the grandfather of Muhammad Manko, and my daughter’s grandfather on the side of her mother were relations.
“I know that the principal is very much aware of the rule that says he cannot seek marital relationship with any of his students and, therefore, cannot venture into it.”
This however, contradicts earlier report, in which the principal admitted having an affair with the girl and said he had offered to marry her. Though, he denied she was pregnant for him.
Boko Haram Attacks: Police Bans Hawking
In response to the latest Boko Haram bombings in mosques and churches in the northern region of the country, Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, has asked all Commissioners of Police in the country to beef up security at all worship centres.

This was made known to the public in a statement issued by CSP Abayomi Shogunle, deputy public relations officer.
The IG tasked the CP’s in the country with providing sufficient security in venues where Muslims break-fast in the evenings.
Arase asked worshippers to be vigilant and to report any suspicious persons or substance or activities in or around their environment to relevant authorities.
Also, street hawking and all forms of trading on Abuja roads/Highways especially road intersections, traffic light points and traffic hold-ups has been been prohibited.
Also plans are in place to demolish all unauthorized taxi parks and bus stops formed around the Federal Secretariat, Abuja.
The only types of buses and taxi allowed to operate are those painted in authorized commercial colours and they will be allowed to operate at designated taxi parks and bus stops in and around the Central Area, Abuja.
The police also warned violators to desist from the banned acts or risk being arrested as police units have been directed to enforce the new orders.
The laws are in response to the Boko Haram bombing of a Redeemed Christian Church of God along Bauchi road in Potiskum Town, Yobe State.
The suicide bomber infiltrated a local branch of the church killing six people including himself.
On July 5th, the insurgents also hit church and a restaurant in a coordinated twin bombings. At least fifty people were said to have died after the explosions.
The first explosion occurred at Bauchi road, just before the University of Jos main campus, while the second explosion occurred around Yantaya, Nasarawa Gwon area, both in Jos North local government area of the state.
Suicidal father jumps into the River with his 7 month old son
Police said the baby's father, Tony Moreno, 22, of Middletown, called someone threatening suicide before jumping into the river around 11:45 p.m. Sunday. That person dialed 911 and told officers Moreno's baby boy, Aaden, was making noises in the background.
Officers rushed to the scene and saw Moreno jump. Middletown firefighters pulled him to shore and a LifeStar medical helicopter airlifted Moreno to the hospital, where he was initially listed in serious condition. After searching the water for nearly 24 hours, authorities called it quits for the night, with no sign of Aaden's body.
State police issued a Silver Alert for the boy Monday morning but later said the chances of finding him alive are slim.
"The Middletown police department has been able to confirm that a 7-month-old listed as missing did enter the Connecticut River last night. The search for the 7-month-old boy is now classified as a recovery," Middletown police spokesman Lt. Heather Desmond said during a news conference Monday afternoon.
Moreno, meanwhile, has improved in the hospital and is now listed in stable condition. Police said he's conscious and alert, but it's not clear if Moreno has told investigators what may have happened to his young son. Police are still investigating but said they expect to file charges.
Community members gathered at the Middletown green Monday evening to hold a candlelight vigil for Aaden. A Facebook group entitled "Help Find Aaden Moreno!!" has garnered the support of more than 1,500 people.
Aaden is 2 feet tall and weighs 23 pounds, according to the Silver Alert issued Monday. He was last seen wearing black pants and a black-and-white striped shirt with a picture of Mickey Mouse on the front.
In the US, police will issue a Silver Alert for any child who is missing, along with missing people over the age of 65 and any other missing people who might have a medical condition requiring treatment.

Man Utd, Chelsea and City receive huge Paul Pogba boost as Barcelona end interest
BARCELONA have confirmed they have pulled out of the race to land Paul Pogba after signing Arda Turan from Atletico Madrid.
Pogba has been linked with a move away from Juventus this summer with a host of European clubs said to be interested.
Barca are thought to have made a £70million offer for the French midfielder last week but saw it knocked back.
And they instead moved to snap up Turan in a £29million deal from Atletico Madrid yesterday.
Incumbent Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has now admitted that the signing brings the Catalan club's interest in Pogba to an end, at least for the time being.
He said: "We will not buy Pogba this year.
"We are not planning with him for next season. He is not part of our sporting plans for 2015-16 at this stage."
Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United are all thought to be interested in landing Pogba but it is unclear whether the trio are willing to go above the bid Barca had rejected last week to make a deal happen.
Confirmed: Spurs midfielder Nabil Bentaleb signs new five-year deal
NABIL BENTALEB has signed a new five-year contract at Tottenham.
The French-born Algeria international enjoyed a breakthrough season in the most recent campaign.
He made 35 appearances in all competitions as he formed a fine central midfield partnership with fellow academy graduate Ryan Mason.
The Daily Telegraph revealed last month that fierce rivals Arsenal were interested in his services, as well as Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.
However, he has instead opted to commit his future at White Harte Lane until the summer of 2020.
"The club is delighted to announce that Nabil Bentaleb has signed a new five-year contract, which runs until 2020," said a club statement.
While the 20-year-old tweeted: "I'd like to say thanks to the club, thanks to my family and thanks to the fans for the support."
