Georginio Wijnaldum has been granted permission by PSV Eindhoven to hold talks with Newcastle United over a potential transfer.
Wijnaldum, 24, has been in-demand this summer with Everton among the clubs interested in signing the Netherlands international.
But the midfielder is closing on a switch to Newcastle after PSV announced on Twitter he has left their hotel to hold talks with the Premier League side.
Wijnaldum signed for PSV from Feyenoord in 2011 and helped the club lift the Eredivisie title in the 2014-15 campaign, scoring 14 goals.
Newly appointed Newcastle boss Steve McClaren is hoping to make up to five key signings as the club targets players in the £10 million-plus bracket.
