CHELSEA are believed to be making a last-ditch attempt to prevent Nicolas Otamendi from joining Manchester United.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is said to be keen on the Argentina international as a long-term replacement for John Terry.
And Spanish newspaper Super Deporte claim Mourinho has called Otamendi's agent Jorge Mendes to broker a deal.
It's understood the Blues would have to match Valencia's £36million buy-out clause to stand a chance of landing the 26-year-old.
Plus they would also have to disturb Manchester United's ongoing negotiations, presumably by making the Argentine a better personal offer.

However, Mourinho will be boosted by the fact that Mendes has already secured Diego Costa and Radamel Falcao's moves to Stamford Bridge.
Real Madrid are understood to have already pulled out of the race for the centre-back, according to AS, and Chelsea will be hoping United do likewise.
