Sissoko has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal and Chelsea in recent months, with the 25-year-old keen on European football next season.

And now, according to reports in France, Liverpool have entered the battle for his signature.

Newcastle are believed to be open to £17million offers for the former Toulouse man, who bagged five goals last term.

Sissoko has previously opened the door to joining Premier League champions Chelsea in the summer, insisting it would be a dream to play under Jose Mourinho.

He said: "He (Mourinho) is one of the best managers in the world. He has won so many titles... Any player would love to be coached by this man.

"If one day I have the chance to work under his guidance, I would be very happy."
